Application using AI to process applications for Czech citizenship (7 min)
The ministries of the interior in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are testing how artificial intelligence can ease the processing of citizenship and residence applications. Instead of rummaging through hundreds of pages and hard-to-navigate PDFs, an official receives clear summaries of key data. The final decision, however, remains with a human. Applications arrive as thick case files or lists of PDFs with names like 1.1 or 1.2, which are hard to navigate. Artificial intelligence reads all the documents, even when they are scans or handwritten, and assigns them understandable types, such as employment contract or birth certificate. It then pulls out key information, creates an annotation, and the staff member can view the original as needed. The system automatically detects the language and provides a translation so that important facts can be verified quickly. From paper chaos to readable data
