Informal caregivers of elderly loved ones significantly reduce the pressure on public spending and keep families together, but it also affects their personal and professional lives. Understanding who they are and the obstacles they face is essential to create the right forms of support for them. The SILVERGON careplan application helps families organize care for seniors and minimize the risk of burnout and depression.

Slovakia and the rest of Europe are aging rapidly, and more and more families are bearing the burden of informal care for seniors. One in five employees is also a caregiver and spends on average over 20 hours a week on care. The invisible work of families keeps the system afloat, but without targeted support it will become increasingly demanding.

The quiet backbone of an aging society

Informal caregivers in the European Union provide as much as 80% of care for seniors. These are mainly family members who juggle work, household responsibilities, and care—often without pay or professional guidance. Family is irreplaceable in this area: without it, providing humane and financially sustainable care would not be possible. At the same time, we cannot leave caregivers to shoulder everything on their own.
