Michal Prokopič

University Hospital Martin, Gastroenterologist

After graduating in medicine from the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, he continued with postgraduate studies, which he completed in 2021 by obtaining a PhD degree. His research focused on immune-mediated inflammation of the bile ducts and liver. In 2020, he completed a one-year research fellowship at the Tytgat Institute for Intestinal and Liver Research in Amsterdam. Since finishing his studies, he has been working at the Gastroenterology Clinic of the University Hospital in Martin, where he obtained his specialization in gastroenterology in 2025. In both his clinical and scientific work, he mainly focuses on patients with immune-mediated inflammatory bowel diseases, particularly Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. As part of this field, he has also completed professional fellowships at institutions in Copenhagen, Lüneburg, Amsterdam, and Prague. He serves as the chair of the Young Gastroenterologists Section of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society and as the national representative in the Young Talents Group of the European gastroenterology society. For his scientific work, he has received several awards from Slovak professional societies.
