Connecting cities, startups and artificial intelligence for sustainable urban mobility (15:05 - 15:10)
Urban mobility faces growing challenges related to the climate crisis, traffic congestion and the need for digital transformation. Through Europe's largest initiative, cities can use artificial intelligence, innovative technologies and collaboration with start-ups to decarbonise and improve the quality of life of their citizens.
Europe is looking for ways to turn congested streets into pleasant places to live. The EIT Urban Mobility initiative connects cities, startups, and artificial intelligence to accelerate change in favor of people, not cars. From Michal Tobiáš’s talk, we present an overview of what this community has already achieved and how AI is actually helping on the streets. EIT Urban Mobility is part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and brings together more than 1000 members—cities, universities, startups, and companies. Since 2020, it has supported more than 440 startups, brought over 200 innovative measures to market, and backed emerging companies with a sum exceeding 250 million. In addition to grants, it is an active partner of other initiatives and develops its own networks, such as City Club and specialized interest groups. The well-known Raptor program is currently inviting cities and innovators to jointly tackle specific challenges. Results are visible on the ground: more than 290 pilots are running in over 140 cities across the EU. The focus is broad—from the future of public transport and active mobility (walking, cycling), through the enhancement of public spaces, to sustainable last-mile logistics and connecting mobility with energy. The goal is for people to get around faster, safer, and cleaner. Collaboration with initiatives such as Mission Cities, and the transfer of proven solutions between cities, is essential.A European community for better urban mobility
