DISCUSSION "Acceleration of innovations in healthcare"
Innovation in healthcare is moving faster than regulation — and money and the approach to risk matter most. The panelists compared post-Brexit Britain, Israel’s culture of “not waiting,” and America’s drive to market. They agreed that AI, telemedicine, and wearables are part of the solution, but the rules need to be advanced carefully. In Britain, the post-Brexit period is one of change: the country is for now mirroring European rules and considering adopting elements of American regulation as well. London no longer sets the rules; it only adapts to them, which practically means that a product compatible in the EU will to a large extent be compatible in the UK as well. Experts, however, point out that some low-risk products are overregulated, while digital solutions are largely just supervised. A different message comes from Israel: don’t wait for the government; start in hospitals and demonstrate in practice that it works.Brexit, mirroring Europe, and a culture of not waiting
