North Atlantic Accelerator for Defense Innovation - DIANA

Diana Budinská - , Ministry of Defense of the SR ·

DIANA is an innovation accelerator developing the cooperation of alliance structures with the civil sector, which serves as an auxiliary tool in the search for innovative technological solutions and their suppliers for the benefit of NATO allies. The unique innovation-technological network connects civilian and military experts with research institutions, test centers and private companies - innovators from NATO countries. DIANA represents an opportunity for innovators from the public, private and academic sectors to develop their ideas and sophisticated technologies in cooperation with NATO.

The NATO DIANA accelerator connects the public, private, and academic sectors and offers grants, testing, and connections to investors. Slovak teams also have space in it; artificial intelligence is among the priorities and in a recent period accounted for nearly half of the investments from the NATO Innovation Fund. A network of approximately 180 testing centers and five facilities in Slovakia opens the path from idea to real deployment in the armed forces.

What DIANA is and who it brings together

DIANA is a NATO accelerator program focused on new and breakthrough technologies with applications in security and defense. It connects innovators from the public, private, and academic spheres and helps turn promising ideas into proven solutions. The goal is to respond to security challenges in the alliance’s member countries and to support so‑called deep tech with the potential for rapid impact.

Among DIANA’s priority areas is artificial intelligence, which has a firm place in the program’s strategic direction for 2024–2025. The program focuses on dual‑use solutions – civilian and defense – or those that can be adapted for defense needs.
