Piotr Pedowski, MD, PhD, MPH, serves as Head of the Department of Radiodiagnostics and Imaging Methods at the Faculty of Medicine of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and at Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Košice, as well as Head Physician of the Cerebrovascular Unit. He established the Cerebrovascular Unit and the Mechanical Endovascular Thrombectomy Centre in Košice and played a key role in developing a network of mechanical thrombectomy centres across eastern Slovakia. Today, this network provides endovascular stroke treatment throughout the region. As an interventional neuroradiologist, he specialises in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, including the use of flow diverters, mechanical thrombectomy and rescue stenting. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the international TRUST registry and serves as Principal Investigator at his institution. He is also involved in international clinical trials and publishes in peer-reviewed scientific journals. At the Faculty of Medicine of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, he leads the teaching of radiodiagnostics in both the Slovak and English-language medical programmes. He recently revised the curricula in line with the European Society of Radiology standards and expanded them to include interventional radiology, artificial intelligence and radiation protection. Drawing on his education in public health and healthcare management, he is also involved in improving access to and developing networks for interventional radiology in Slovakia and contributes to expert materials prepared for the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. He is particularly interested in the implementation of digital tools and artificial intelligence in everyday hospital practice, with a focus on solutions that can be successfully integrated into the routine operation of clinical departments.
