After graduating from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Faculty of Law of Comenius University, he worked in various diplomatic posts. Between 2000 and 2003 he was Deputy Ambassador at the Slovak Embassy in Israel. Later he became Ambassador to Sweden and between 2012 and 2018 he served as Ambassador to the USA. Upon his return to Slovakia, he became the Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Policy. Since 2020, he has been a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, where he served as Vice-Chairman of the European Affairs Committee between 2020 and 2023.
