Patrik Jakubek
He first encountered palliative medicine in 2017 during his internship at the Hospicjum św. Łazarza in Krakow. In 2018, he began running a mobile hospice in the Zemplín region, where he gained his first practical experience in palliative care. In 2019, he started his pre-doctoral training in palliative medicine, which he successfully completed at the Slovak University of Health Sciences in Bratislava in December 2022. Since 2023, he has been the founder and professional guarantor of the integrated social-medical facility Liečebňa sv. Filomény in Vranov nad Topľou, which includes an inpatient hospice, a nursing care home, and a mobile hospice. He is actively involved in the professional development of palliative medicine in Slovakia. In 2024, he served as President of the Slovak Society of Palliative Medicine (SSPM) and is currently the Chairman of its Supervisory Board. Since autumn 2025, he has been co-founder of the civic association Hospicea, o. z., which in cooperation with the Czech institute Dialogus develops educational and leadership programmes for hospice workers in Slovakia.
