Ondřej Kopecký is the Chair of the Czech Society of Palliative Medicine of the Czech Medical Association J. E. Purkyně (ČLS JEP). He previously worked as a physician in intensive and resuscitation care, and since 2014 he has focused his professional activities on the development of palliative care, particularly in hospital settings. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Head of the Department of Palliative Medicine at the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and the General University Hospital in Prague. Since 2026, he has been leading a newly established palliative medicine department at the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital. A significant part of his work is dedicated to developing the professional community and increasing access to high-quality palliative care in the Czech Republic. He advocates for the standardization and systemic integration of palliative care and, from 2019 to 2021, led the clinical component of a project of the Czech Ministry of Health aimed at supporting and standardizing hospital palliative care teams. He is a member of the implementation team of the Czech Ministry of Health responsible for preparing the Strategy for the Development of Palliative Care in the Czech Republic through 2035.
