Michal Chovanec

Doc. MUDr. Michal Chovanec, PhD., works at the Second Department of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava and the National Cancer Institute. He also serves as a visiting researcher at the Indiana University Cancer Center in Indianapolis, USA. He specializes in tumors of the urogenital system, with a particular focus on clinical and translational research into germ cell tumors of the testis. In 2015, he completed a two-month UICC ICRETT fellowship at Indiana University, where, under the guidance of Professor Lawrence Einhorn, he received training in the clinical care and translational research of urogenital malignancies. From 2016 to 2017, he subsequently served there as a visiting professor and researcher. In 2021, he completed further specialized training at Indiana University in the field of salvage high-dose chemotherapy for germ cell tumors. He regularly presents at clinical and scientific conferences and publishes in international peer-reviewed journals. At the National Cancer Institute, he introduced a salvage regimen of high-dose chemotherapy for patients with relapsed germ cell tumors and developed and implemented a research protocol focused on late-onset treatment toxicity in people who have overcome these diseases. He is a founding member of the nonprofit organization Zdravie v hrsti and the founder of the online educational platform Dr. Chovanec. He actively fosters international collaboration in oncology research with academic institutions in the U.S. and Europe.
