Jakub Filipko
He was born in Liptovský Mikuláš. He studied at the Eight-Year Sports Gymnasium in Banská Bystrica and later at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of Comenius University in Bratislava. Alongside his studies, he was actively involved in high-performance sports. After joining the Mountain Rescue Service, he completed his studies at the Secondary Medical School in Žilina, specializing as a paramedic. He has received several individual and team awards. He is a multiple winner of an international solo folk dance competition and a member of the Golden Fund of the Šaffova Ostroha competition. In 2015, he co-founded the Rozhybkosti folklore festival. His passion for the mountains and helping others has been reflected in both his personal and professional life. During his nearly twelve-year career as a professional mountain rescuer, he and his colleagues have helped save dozens of human lives. For several demanding rescue and search operations, he has received various honors: the Commemorative Medal of the Minister of the Interior of the Slovak Republic (2nd Class) and the Commemorative Medal and Award of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic in 2020; the Commemorative Medal of the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová, and the Medal for a Heroic Act from the Minister of the Interior of the Slovak Republic in 2023. In the same year, together with colleagues from the Mountain Rescue Service, he was awarded the Order of the Blue Cross—the highest decoration of the Ecumenical Pastoral Service Office of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic.
