eInvoicing at a crossroad, PEPPOL results & future

Over the last 4 years eInvoicing has become more and more mission critical to many public sector organisations and governments across Europe. With government procurement accounting for more than 2.200 billion Euro within Europe, and only 5% of this is awarded through electronic systems, it is clear that the potential of savings is really big. According to the European Commission Green paper on eProcurement annual savings would be close to 50 billion Euro. This is one of the reasons why the PEPPOL project was initiated by the European Commission, and also why a new EC large scale project will take over this fall 2012 - eInvoicing and eProcurement will be common components of the future European IT infrastructure.
