A survey among participants of a technology conference showed that for modernizing Slovakia, people—not the technologies themselves—are decisive. The top priority is education, talent, and strong project leadership. Expectations also point to government on your phone and to AI aimed at increasing productivity.
Digitalization is progressing, but not enough
In assessing the progress of Slovakia’s digitalization, cautious optimism prevailed: 34 % of respondents see improvement, the largest group says the situation remains roughly the same, and a significant share perceives deterioration. A strong message is directed at the state’s approach: the citizen should not have to go to the office; the state should come to them—into their phone. “Mobile government” became the number-one investment priority among digital infrastructure projects. It is expected that this direction will be the practical path to better services.
How to run good projects and where AI makes sense
According to participants, successful digital projects rest on three pillars: a clear brief with a measurable goal, transparency and fair competition among suppliers, and finally a strong owner on the government side. In other words, technical solutions are not enough if sound governance and accountability are missing. Quality leadership sets both the pace and the outcome, and without it investments easily dissipate into inefficiency. That is why there was an emphasis on competence and rigor in execution.
With artificial intelligence, participants see the greatest value in growing companies’ productivity. Expectations are pragmatic: AI should speed up processes, reduce costs, and increase performance where it brings measurable benefit. AI strategies should therefore be oriented toward practical benefits for the economy and services. Technology today enables a lot, but change is made by people who know how to use it wisely.
