disasterAPP. Solution for Mass Casualty Incidents
disasterAPP is an application for dealing with mass casualty incidents. It consists of four parts: information, education, training, and intervention. It is designed for both the general public and professionals to be prepared in Slovakia if a disaster happens because it is not a question of "if" but a question of "when."
Disaster medicine unfolds in chaos, where minutes and a clear head are decisive. The presenting paramedic described how hard it is to manage a mass-casualty incident with paper and pen in the rain. She therefore introduced a mobile application designed to make triage, communication, and training easier in the Slovak context. Mass-casualty incidents are extremely stressful and logistically demanding, even for experienced first responders. In such an environment, paper forms and notes are unreliable and slow the work, especially in bad weather. What’s needed is rapid triage, clear task allocation, and an instant overview of patients’ status.
