DISCUSSION "Cyber Security in Healthcare"
Cybersecurity in healthcare is not an add-on, but a prerequisite for safe and seamless care. Digitalization has brought efficiency as well as new risks that affect diagnostics, treatment, and the protection of patient data. Regulatory changes and the European action plan will help, but preparedness and open communication during incidents are decisive. Most processes in hospitals today take place in cyberspace and depend on interconnected information systems and devices. This is also why healthcare remains a sector targeted by the European NIS2 directive, transposed into Slovak law as of 2025. The obligations will apply mainly to hospitals and major suppliers, while standard outpatient clinics typically fall outside the scope of obligations. The European Commission has also announced a cybersecurity action plan for healthcare, with an emphasis on support and funding. The National Security Authority and SK‑CERT have indicated that they will keep the sector continuously informed about options and recommendations. The goal is clear: to systematically strengthen resilience where capacity and investment have long been lacking.Healthcare as a critical part of the digital state
