Highly available hyperconverged infrastructure for railway infrastructure management
The presentation includes an introduction of the telecommunications operator ŽT (Railway telecommunications), an organizational unit of ŽSR (Slovak railways), which provides internet services, data center services, network infrastructure and support for internal and external customers, including the largest carriers. The presentation will present the architecture of a highly available platform for the mentioned services, for example also for the implementation of international projects in accordance with the regulations of the European Commission on technical specifications for interoperability in cargo and passenger rail transport.
Railway Telecommunications are a lesser-known yet key component of Železnice Slovenskej republiky. They are responsible for ensuring that trains have reliable communication, systems run without outages, and information on arrivals or delays is available. The lecture outlined their origins, infrastructure, and place in the liberalized railway market. It is an internal organizational unit of ŽSR that oversees IT, telecommunications, and the management of cybersecurity in accordance with applicable legislation. Its roots go back to 1968, when the transport computing center was established; since 2002 the unit has operated under the name Železničné telekomunikácie. It is the last state-owned telecommunications operator in the fixed-line network and an integrated provider of comprehensive ICT services for the railways. The portfolio comprises approximately 80 information systems and services divided into areas of technology, economics, support, and others, used primarily by ŽSR and secondarily by ZSSK and ZSSK Cargo.Who Railway Telecommunications Are
