An ID card on your phone won't be ready by Christmas – and here's why. The talk outlined the European digital wallet, two ways of proving identity, and the path to a secure electronic signature. Trust and continuous improvement are key instead of waiting for perfect specifications. The first scenario works at close range: data are transferred between two phones, typically after scanning a QR code and via contactless transfer, and the verifier sees a digitally verified credential. The advantage is offline use, since the data are stored directly on the phone. The drawback is the need to ensure that data stay current and are stored securely, which modern devices handle better than cheaper ones.
