A native of Nitra, who lives in Banská Bystrica, where he works in the Dukla Military Sports Center. He has been involved in sports all his life, in addition to which he studied journalism at UKF in Nitra, where he also met his wife Lenka, with whom they are raising two daughters. Matej has been pursuing a professional sports career for 26 years and has brought to Slovakia the most valuable thing that could be gained in athletics. He won a gold medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The year before, he became the first Slovak world champion in athletics.
